Latest Tips Patio Furniture Care & Maintenance 2011

Our backyards for many have become another living space we furnish and enjoy over the spring and summer months. This outdoor space often replaces dining rooms, living rooms and for some even the bedroom. Patio furniture has come a long way and it becomes important to care for your investment.

Cast aluminum patio furniture is rust free and requires generally little maintenance. To clean cast aluminum, wipe down the frames occasionally with water mixed with liquid detergent and rinse thoroughly afterward. Many stains can be removed with mild soap and water. Use a soft sponge to remove stubborn stains. To preserve the finish of the paint throughout the winter months, we recommend applying a winterized patio furniture cover.

For glass top tables clean glass table tops regularly with a soft cloth, mild detergent, vinegar, and warm water. Commercial glass cleaners may also be used. Avoid using heavy solvents, scouring agents, and janitorial cleaners. Wipe down the frames occasionally with water mixed with liquid detergent and rinse thoroughly afterward. Many stains can be removed with mild soap and water. Use a soft sponge to remove stubborn stains. During winter storage, do not store the frames upside down as damage may occur from water freezing inside the tubing. Sling furniture is particular popular around the poolside.

Today's casual fabrics are low maintenance and weather resistant, however, a few precautions will help ensure that your slings provide you with many years of satisfaction. It is important that sling fabrics be cleaned regularly. For best results, gently scrub with mild detergent and warm water. Regular cleaning will help prevent the possibility of mildew by washing out dirt particles that become trapped in the weave.

Resin wicker has become popular in many backyards. Very little maintenance is required to maintain the beauty of your resin wicker. We do recommend, however, a periodic cleaning to remove any dirt, dust, or oils that may collect over time to keep your wicker looking new. Both the frame and the wicker can be washed with mild detergent and water when they become soiled, using a wet sponge to wipe the soil from the surface. Rinse with clean water and allow to air dry. We hope this information helps you maintain your patio furniture.
